
FLOW SWITCHING by MIT SCIENTISTS
After using optical fibre technology in Internet the dimensions of internet has been changed drastically.By using this optical fibre technology the speed and also quality of communication has been increased quite effectively.The scientists are saying that by advancing the technology used in optical fibres we can increase the current speed of internet to 1000 faster than present.Massachusetts institute of technology scientists has found the main problem in optical fibre technology and they have suggested a technology to improve and repair the problem in optical technology....the suggested technology is "FLOW SWITCHING"What the problem in present optical fibre technology?
The use of optical fibre technology had revolutionised the process of communication.in these cables communication will travel in the form of light energy.By using this cables we have the ability to send this wavelengths of light so different types of data can be send in only one cable.After this communication has travelled through optical fibre to destination place then this optical signals will be transformed into electrical signals.We use a router to transform these signals.So ROUTERS play important role in this optical communication.The speed of communication in optical cables will be fast but after communication at routers a lot of time is being wasted to transform each signal.So the speed of internet is not up to the mark as said by MIT scientists.Information from various places and various types of data after travelling through these optical fibres reach the routers at one point of time,so the routers doesn't have the capacity to transform that large information at unit time so it stores some information in its memory and transforms one signal after the other.The time required to this is not more than few milli seconds but this time is lot more than time requires by information to travel through optical fibres.So to solve this problem MIT scientists opted a new form of solution by FLOW SWITCHING.
What is this FLOW SWITCHING ?
Network traffic means...to transfer large amount of information we use a dedicated path(for example in optical fibre cables each company owns a wavelength to transfer their data and this wavelength should not be used by any other company).The scientists are saying that by using flow switching in this we can improve the speed.For example if the information transfer between two cities is very large then the transfer of information from one side of dedicated path will be transformed into electric signals by router.So by this the information from all sides cannot be reached to the router.In dedicated lines the bandwidth will be same at all times.If servers will not use the total bandwidth then bandwidth will be left unused.and if the information in more then there is possibility of over bandwidth in dedicated lines.And if we use flow switching then this problem will not arise.In flow switching the bandwidth will change in a perfect interval.In this flow switching if the information to send is large then the router will use another wavelength of light and if information is less then another company will use this wavelength so that so bandwidth is wasted in either of dedicated lines.So by using this flow switching we can improve the speed of internet up to 100 times minimum and 1000 times maximum of current speed as told by head of scientists of MIT Vincent chan.
Is speed necessary ?
Japan and South korea stands first in among the countries those are served with high speed internet.In these countries the average net speed is about 86 Mbps .But in our country.In India the netzens using 5 Mbps and more speed is about 0.6% and 256 Kbps and below is about 26%.But if we ask scientists that if there is a demand for the internet speed,the answers from them are quite different.Cisco systems principal engineer Ori Geristal says that there is present demand for internet speed but in future if we use HD(High Definition) videos and Tv's then this flow switching technology must be used.but if we use this then present all routers should be changed and their will be lot of process to take place...so I think MIT scientists are working and advancing this technology and may be 5 years or odd in future we expect FLOSWITCHING TECHNOLGY to be implemented in OPTICAL FIBRE TECHNOLOGY.So then in India we expect the average net speed 1000 times than present speed as 400-500 Mbps ..i.e. a movie can be downloaded within you write the name of movie on the CD you want to load upon.....So expect that speed not know but after 5 years or odd...
